| Upgrading Series3 software |
1.1 Manual
1. Download new HostPC.exe and S3Kernel.exe from CRS website www.crsltd.com.
2. Install HostPC.exe according to instructions in site - this should run smoothly.
3. INSTALLING KERNEL UPDATE:
3.1 Unzip S3Kernel.exe to C:\Temp
3.2 Open Update.cfg in text editor (PFE, Notepad) and edit paths so that
they will correspond to actual paths to s3kernel files on Maxlab2. Current settings are:
\\Maxlab2\c\s3kernel\Series3
\\Maxlab2\c\s3kernel\Series3\Modules
\\Maxlab2\c\s3kernel\Series3\Defapp
\\Maxlab2\c\s3kernel\Series3\Default (empty)
3.3 Save Update.cfg and now follow the CRS website instructions.
3.4 After updating is complete, quit CCC and go to Maxlab2. Replace Series3.ini file
with file Series3.ini from kernel backup directory (currently
\\Maxlab2\c\s3kernel.sav\Series3)
1.2 Recommended (?)
1. Ask CRS for upgrade.
2. If there is a new upgrade available, they will send it to us.
3. Rename current s3kernel to s3kernel.sav (delete old .sav if existing).
4. Follow the instructions found in pckit.pdf.
5. Copy config file for our monitor Configdl.vsg from s3kernel.sav\Series3 to s3kernel\Series3.
6. Copy ini file for our system Series3.ini from s3kernel.sav\Series3 to s3kernel\Series3.
7. Create a backup of Configdl.vsg named Configdl.vsg.sav.
2. Using DAT files
1. Extract the contents of the Zip archive into a temporary folder on the
host PC hard drive. Eleven files should be extracted.
2. To install the Kernel Update you must launch the VSG Series Three
Software Communication and Control Centre and ensure that communication
between the VSG Series Three and host PC is established.
3. Correct Upgrade.cfg as in item 3.2 of 1.1.
4. Click Update on the Communication and Control Centre menu bar, then
select Update Series Software.
5. Use the Browse button to locate the drive and temporary folder
containing the extracted Kernel Update files (the default file name
Update.CFG should be correct).
6. Clicking the Proceed button will commence a transfer of the update via
the serial link. Typically at a rate of 115200 bps the transfer will take
about four minutes. When the transfer is complete, the VSG Series Three will
reset and the Communication and Control Centre will automatically attempt to
establish communication. If the Update fails, the factory installed version
of the VSG Series Three Software Kernel can be restored. Click the Options
button and select Series Three Defaults. You will also need to reinstall the
original version of the Host PC Utilities that was supplied with your VSG
Series Three system.

NOTE: Once upgrade is tested and everything is fine, update info in the file \\Maxlab2\c\s3kernel\Versions.txt, copy folder s3kernel.sav to folder s3kernel.old and s3kernel to s3kernel.sav.
